Drumroll Please......

by Bex

I finally get to make an exciting, scary but happy announcement on the blog!  (Admittedly not the big announcement I always hoped to one day make but still...)  We are moving.

We found out on Friday we will be moving to...

Eeeeek!!!  It's so scary and exciting!  Brighton is SO FAR away.  We've known for years we would be moving away at this point in Nik's career but now we know where, it's suddenly become real!  I can finally start making plans and LISTS!  It will certainly be keeping me busy and be a good distraction from the other major stress in life at the moment (the IVF or lack thereof).  We need to start seriously decluttering and getting the flat ready to put on the market.  I will be making lots of lists to help me feel in control of everything and organised.  It's going to be so strange and stressful moving such a distance.  The weather will certainly be an improvement on Glasgow.

I think this might be "Hove actually" since Brighton beach is a pebble beach?

It will be hard to leave Glasgow, we've been here almost 6 years now and have loved it.  Moving to another country is scary.  I know it's only Scotland to England but I've only known Scotland.  I don't remember my time in Wales as a baby/toddler.  I grew up here and consider myself Scottish.  Glasgow was the first place Nik and I ever lived together.  We moved here when Nik went back to university and I went back to working in practice again after a stint as an SHO in Edinburgh myself.  So much has happened here.  This is where we got engaged, planned our wedding, held part of my hen night in this flat and got married just half a mile away.  We've made some big decisions about our future and supported each other through it all.  There have been a lot of tears and difficult times here as well but Glasgow's always been the backdrop of our story.

Here is where I started my blog from nothing, watched it grow to a healthy readership (who have also supported me through tough times).  This last year has been really exciting, I started getting invited to things and I've really enjoyed reviewing more and more places in Glasgow, either as a guest or customer, not to mention meeting more people and making new local friends.  I'll be sad to leave all that behind.  I just hope Brighton has some great burger places too since I've become quite the burger fan recently!

The blog has also expanded my horizons in other ways, I've made so many friends this way and that has helped massively in making this move easier, knowing I will have existing friends nearby (London) makes it much less scary.  Seeing people on twitter get excited that I might be moving near them was so heartwarming and really makes me more excited about the whole thing.  I hope to use the blog to make new local friends in Brighton too.  If I don't find a local baking club, craft club or book club, I plan to start them and just hope someone shows up!  Or maybe even a brunch club?!

Who wants to be my new local friend in Brighton??  Anyone?

Moving away will still be difficult, I have made so many close friends here in Glasgow who've supported us along the way and been so much fun to know.  I know that they are lifelong friends and even though we're literally moving to the other end of the country we'll always stay in touch but it won't be the same, I'll miss them like crazy.  Obviously there'll have to be a big leaving party too!

I'm looking forward to exploring Brighton, from what I've heard it sounds like my kinda place.  The cafes and restaurants, the lanes with independent shops, the beach, the pier...

It will be an adventure.  A new beginning for us.  I think that's just what we need right now.  (Ridiculously I'm crying as I write that last sentence!)

I think we'll like Brighton, it feels strange moving to a place neither of us has ever even been to!  Knowing we're stuck there for the next 5 years.  Lets just hope that...

Clearly I have already started a Brighton/Sussex Pinterest board to help get me excited about moving there!  (I just kept it secret.)  ;)

P.S. Mahj, I'm sorry it's not Manchester!

Yey, Brighton! Although it's not close to us we visit at least once a year because Tom's godparents and one of my closest friends live there. We love it there and would definitely live in Brighton if money was no object.

Brighton is amazing! You are gonna love it! It's young/vibrant with a lovely beach - great shopping and near London. East Sussex as a county is really beautiful too.. Good luck with the move! X

That's great, congratulations! I've never been but Brighton looks great, plus anywhere with a beach has to be an excellent place to live.
I'm knee deep in boxes right now so I feel your pain with the organising and impending packing but it will be a great new adventure for you and Nik. Good luck with it all!

How exciting Bex! I absolutely love Brighton (and it's actually really easy to get to from my part of London)! Can definitely share with you my favourite cafes etc? xx

I am sure you will LOVE Brighton. AND this means I get to find a way to introduce you to my friend who lives that way. Which is excellent. :)

Sad to hear you're moving (having only just met you as my almost neighbour!) but huge congratulations to Nik and I know that you will absolutely love Brighton - so many fantastic wee places to explore! Really great for vegetarian food and fish but am sure you will find some great burger joints too!

That's such exciting news - Brighton looks amazing! I'm booked for a first visit for a friend's wedding in June and really looking forward to exploring. Good luck with your move. Brighton seems such a friendly place. I'm sure you'll settle quickly. What a shame it's not Liverpool - I'd have been right there in the bake club queue! :)
