Books & Bunches, Mud & Snot - Twin Update by Bex

AKA - the best bits (part 6)

Her never ending love of all books.  LOVE it!

Tell tale signs of toddler-hood - muddy hands and snotty noses.  She'd been helping Daddy planting pots in the garden.

Sneakily stealing Mummy's phone before demanding CBeebies while I made breakfast (and sneakily took photos of them).

Watching the horses:

Tickling!

Building towers - he's getting pretty good at building them up high!

All the bouncing on Mummy & Daddy's bed!

Kalyan has so many words now, he's learning new ones every day.  Priya's getting more vocal but still doesn't have any more clear words.  She's pretty awesome at the animal noises though!

K loves to run everywhere.  He also has the cutest little happy dance where he basically runs on the spot and he even does fist pumps!

They love gardening - helping to rake, put in plant feed, dig and fill their little wheelbarrow with leaves.

They're both still obsessed with water, they love their sand and water table in the garden and bath time is always fun time!

P has started wanting her teddies when we put her to bed, she holds her arms out until I put one in her arms, then another and another...  She once ended up cuddling all 8 teddies that were in her cot!  Arms wide and overflowing with dinosaurs, bears, bunnies and puppies!

When K gets upset (it's usually him), P gets concerned and tries to comfort him, usually patting him on the head or giving him a toy.  He doesn't like being patted on the head so it only makes him worse but she does it out of kindness and love.  It's very sweet.

Uh Oh!  I taught them this, oops.  They say it a lot!  If there's any mess, they drop something, they get dirty hands, their milk spills, there's something out of place, there's a stringy bit on their banana....  "Uh Oh!"

Priya's gesture for "all gone" or "empty".  She twists her wrist with her hand splayed (sometimes both hands).  Often combined with "Uh Oh" as above!

Priya calling Kalyan, she does this a lot now too - it sounds more like YaaaaYa than Kalyan but it's the intonation and way she does it - so CUTE!

They still love spinning and dancing, especially Priya.

Priya's gestures in general, although she's the one with fewer words, we always know what she means!  She is super cute when she shrugs, be it with one shoulder or both for different reasons.  If you ask her where something is and she can't find it, she shrugs with both palms up.

Priya also LOVES tidying.  She hates mess and is often picking things up and putting them away.  If something falls over, she will right it.  She puts her books back on the shelves (when asked) and likes lining things up.

90 day SSS plan - Cycle 1 tips by Bex

A couple of friends have been asking about the plan in more detail and one has even signed up and asked for tips.  I thought I'd write a summary of how I found each cycle with my tips for each month.

I've seen a lot of people comment on how much info arrives with each cycle and how much there is to read.  Mine was 99 pages long but in reality I found it was mainly recipes.  Apart from a few pages at the start with the majority of the information about the plan, exercises, supplements and how to plan your meals, it was just recipes and then a discount code and links to HIIT videos.  It works out really simple in the end, I got used to it and didn't need my printed sheets except for my chosen recipes.

Basically, when you are going to workout, take your BCAA before and after your HITT.  Take your Whey Protein and Vit C after as well.  (Reasons for these are explained and these are all optional.)  After working out, you have a meal from the carb section.  I stapled together 3 packs of recipes - one for snacks, one for carbs and one for proteins.  The rest of the time you eat meals from the protein section and you choose 2 snacks per day, only one of which can be fruit.  Take other vitamins and supplements at night if you wish.  Simple.

I would recommend joining the Unofficial 90 day SSS Facebook page for tips, encouragement and people to ask questions.  Although you're assigned a coach who you contact via email, they only respond during office hours and if you suddenly have a query you can't find in the website FAQs, there might be someone on the Facebook page who can help.  I had a couple of questions which people had already asked and had the answer to or could give an opinion on.  I also joined the Facebook page someone set up for those of us who started in April so it's a much smaller group with us all around the same stage.

The downside to the Facebook page I found was some people complaining about certain things in the next cycle for example.  Some were finding the exercise hard and taking a long time, some were hungry, some were disappointed in their results.  I found this got me worried about the next cycle unnecessarily (the exercises did take longer and I do get a bit hungry on rest days but generally it's fine and I'm enjoying it!)  The majority of the time though, people are inspiring and positive.

As for the rest, here are my top tips:

1 - Find the recipes that you like

I went through and wrote down the page numbers of each recipe I liked the sound of and just printed those ones.  After trying a few, I got a better idea of which were quicker to make, which were more filling and which I just didn't really like.  I also made a few minor changes to some like the Cashew Nut Chicken Curry (a favourite), I preferred it if I really finely ground the nuts in the food processor and when I made a big batch, I used much less of the garam masala (NOT 4 tbsp for a batch of 4!  Yuck, far too strongly favoured and powdery.  I used 1-2 tbsp.)

I found the chicken stir fry was my go to quick meal for when I hadn't any prepared but this wasn't the most filling.  Some people find that the food is too much, I guess it depends on your appetite and what you're used to eating.  I found they were just about right once I picked the more filling snacks (see below).  If you're struggling, I'd suggest the less filling options like the stir fry and tuna salad.

2 - Choose good snacks

I found I was quite hungry on the first two days before a friend recommended making the turkey egg muffins.  They were delicious and SO filling (I much preferred them with normal potato rather than sweet potato, this is allowed on the swaps page).

I don't recommend making the fish pate with tinned salmon as suggested (I've never bought tinned salmon before but it comes complete with skin and bones and smells awful).  Use tuna or poached salmon fillets.  I also found this a bit bland so added some unauthorised capers, seasoning and chives.

3 - Aim for 5 HIIT sessions a week

You can choose do do 4 or 5 HIIT exercises a week but I always planned for 5.  That way if I had to miss one if the twins woke early or if I really couldn't face it one morning, it wasn't a disaster as I still had the other 4.

4 - If taking the optional supplements, ADD ICE to shakes.

I'd also be careful choosing your flavours.  Joe recommends avoiding the unflavoured as it tastes awful.  I can imagine this being very accurate.  I LOVE my Whey Protein shakes but HATED my Peach & Mango BCAA.  Obviously this is subjective but having now tried the Blue Raspberry (bright blue, no need!) and Cherry Limeade, both of which were reasonable but the cherry was my favourite and least medicinal tasting in my opinion.    The BCAA is the most expensive so I'm still forcing down my Peach & Mango flavour.

TOP TIP - add ice!  Adding ice makes the flavour less obvious and makes them much more palatable.  I also make them with much less water than advised (only 100-200mls) so I can down them quicker and wash it down with more water afterwards.

The Whey Protein can be bought in sample sizes to try first.  They come in handy pouches containing one serving so are also handy to take to the gym or pack for a night away if not working out at home.

I've recently bought a few more just for a bit of variety as I've almost finished my blueberry.  Some obviously work better in certain recipes than others and would be better just as shakes but for adding to the green smoothie or pancakes, I prefer the chocolate or fruity ones.

For the record, I love the Salted Caramel, Blueberry, Raspberry and Vanilla flavours.  (Raspberry & Vanilla together is also nice.)

I didn't like the Chocolate Brownie, Apple Crumble & Custard (too sickly sweet) or Latte.  The Latte was disgusting, smelled and tasted fishy!  The Chocolate Coconut tasted like Bounty which I'm not keen on but if you like them you'd probably love it.

(Once you get to cycle 2, the protein shake is a nice sweet treat on rest days when you're not allowed fruit.)

5 - Do the prepping when you can

As Joe himself says, prep like a boss!  If you can spend a couple of hours (or more) in one go to get a few meals prepped in batches, it really will help you stick to it after a long day.  Although it's a lot of work, the rest of the week is easy, just reheat your chosen meal and your evenings are yours.

I made huge batches as it saved so much time, cooking the same thing times 4 or 6 was so much easier than cooking 4 or 6 different meals with extra pans, etc.  I just weighed the finished batch in a big bowl and divided it into equal portions, trying to keep them even with veg/meat/sauce.  We kept old take-away tubs and I found these were the perfect size and easy to stack in the fridge/freezer.  You can buy those type of plastic food containers pretty cheaply too.

I'm lucky my husband has been very supportive and helped keeping the twins occupied so I could get on with cooking on the weekends.  He's also cooked some of the dinners for us, having the same thing as me (but with added rice or pasta usually).

6 - Download a funky track list for workouts

I made my own mix on Spotify for my workouts, high tempo, loud, energetic tunes to get me going in the morning.  Even now when I hear one of my workout tunes, I feel energised and think of my sunny morning bike rides.

For my HIIT sessions I only needed 6 songs:

Lush Life - Zara Larsson
#thatPOWER - Will.I.Am & Justin Bieber
Burn - Ellie Goulding
Promiscuous - Nelly Furtado & Timbaland
Jai Ho - Pussycat Dolls & A.R. Rahman
Sexy Bitch - David Guetta & Akon

7 - Workout in the morning

The plan advises working out first thing on an empty stomach (well, other than BCAA if you're taking it) to get the best results but I'd also recommend it so you're not thinking all day about working out when you get home from work/put the kids to bed.  After I worked out in the morning, I felt great about the day and was definitely more energetic than non-workout days.  On the day I planned to workout in the evening, I was dreading it all day and then felt so tired after work it was a big struggle to make myself do it.  After that I just made sure I did it at home in the morning (with the odd Sunday exception when I went to the gym in the evening.)

The twins sleep well so I just got up an hour early and did my HIIT, prepped my bagel and showered before they woke.

8 - Find the HIIT that works for you

I started off doing Joe's beginner HIIT Youtube video but I really struggled with the burpees and mountain climbers.  I would end up doing one or two and collapsing and struggling to keep going.  Instead I tried other HIIT videos like Millionaire Hoy who came recommended on Facebook and ended up picking 4 of the exercises I liked the best which I felt got my heart rate up, got me sweaty and out of breath.  I downloaded an interval timer app and set my own 30 on, 30 off timer with a warm up and cool down section and did my 20 minute HIIT 5 times a week.  When I first started though I used a 20 on, 40 off ratio as I was finding it tough!

I did Joe's warm up, high knees running (until I hurt my ankle) and power squats and then skipping and planking (which although didn't get me out of breath, did get my heart rate up and was very hard to hold for 30 seconds) with a few mountain climbers if I could.  I also enjoyed doing HIIT on my bike if the weather was nice, I just put my phone in a pouch on a belt and set the timer going with my Spotify playlist through my headphones.  The dings and bells ring through the music.

I also tried a running HIIT but this made my ankle very sore so I switched back to low impact indoor training and found my in-laws cross trainer helped.  I ended up getting a second hand one for our garage which was only £10!!!

9 - Frozen Veg!

I've always like frozen chopped onion for it's ease but on this plan, I've made use of frozen slices of red onion, mixed peppers, broccoli florets and spinach.  It's so much quicker and easier to measure out (gram for gram) pre-chopped frozen veg for the recipes.  I steam the green in the microwave but you can add the frozen chopped veg (and garlic) straight to the pan for stir-fries, etc.

It's also a good idea to freeze a pick of bagels as you probably won't eat them all before they go stale.  Just take one out the night before your workout so it's ready to slice and toast in the morning.

10 - Get used to greens

There are greens with almost every meal (every meal in C2).  Luckily I love broccoli so I mainly stick to this but the spinach is nice in things when wilted down (I had seriously huge piles of spinach to get through).  I wilted it in a pan first before adding to things so the moisture from the leaves didn't water down my recipes, particularly for the omelettes.

You can cook any of the greens, I had thought the spinach had to be raw from the way it's written in the plan (and some have apparently thought all the greens were to be raw!) but it's just the raw weight.

11 - Get creative

You can adapt recipes by making omelettes into eggy muffins which makes them easier to transport and handier to reheat at work for example.  Some people have developed recipes utilising snacks to add fruit to oats to make flapjacks, etc.  Again, these are things you will find on the Facebook page, lots of them are on the files tab.

I've made desserts by using my berry snack allowance with my yoghurt from the curry recipe, using frozen berries makes it cheaper and more like fro-yo once mixed, you could also blend it together.  Delish!

12 - Make the meals work for you

If you don't like eggs for breakfast, use the porridge, pancakes or granola recipes (apparently there's a brand called Lizi's which you can get approved by your coach to save you making it but it's full of nuts I'm allergic to so I've never tried it) or smoothies.  If you don't like sweet things in the morning (like me), stick to the omelettes, build up bagel, etc.  I'm not averse to a random dinner recipe (Thai curry?) for breakfast either!

13 - Get some good digital scales

They don't have to be expensive but you need a good set of scales as you have to measure EVERYTHING.  It gets quite tiresome when you like cooking but can't just chuck in a bit of this or a few of them.  Everything has to be measured to the gram.

14 - Get a heart rate monitor

Obviously this is optional and not advised as part of the plan but I found I wanted one to see the effects my HIIT had on my heart rate and to push myself to work harder.  It's worked.  I do find I try to get my heart rate up higher in the HIIT sessions and I love deciphering all the info (including sleep patterns) from my new Fitbit Blaze too.  You could go as cheap or expensive as you like but I love the features on mine, as recommended by my friend.

15 - Discount codes

Although you get a discount code for My Protein from Joe, you might find a better one on line or even on My Protein itself.  The first day I went to order my protein powders, I ended up getting 40% off, not 10%!  I also compared the cost of the other supplements with those in supermarkets and health food shops, some of them were cheaper in Tesco/Adsa.

Also for general grocery shopping, Aldi & Lidl for all the veg and meat definitely saves you money - your shopping budget will most likely have to increase to allow for all of the extra meat!

16 - Funky, comfy active wear

I have invested in a few new pieces of gym clothing and feel great when I wear them.  I love bright colours, they cheer me up and help me work out better.  I've got some great bargains from Primark (leggings with a zip pocket - great for bike rides) and some seriously gorgeous patterned leggings from Tikiboo (not so cheap but they do 25% off on bank holidays!) which are so comfy, I feel great in them.  I also got a new sports bra and protein shaker from Sports Direct, also good for bargains!

17 - Don't be tempted to weigh yourself once you start

Joe says to stay off the "sad step" and he's so right.  It can make you feel down if you think there hasn't been much change, especially if you notice a big drop initially due to the drastic change in diet/water levels which then might level out.  I didn't have a massive loss (I did weight myself half way through as I thought it might motivate me further to see a big drop, I didn't.) but noticed a big change in my photos and how I felt.  I managed to resist measuring myself until the end of the 4 weeks and I'm glad I did.

18 - Throw out off-plan treats (or make your husband eat them all!)

If they're there, there will always be that temptation.  I had some leftover icing in the fridge after making a cake and succumbed to a teaspoonful a couple of times!  If it hadn't been there, I obviously wouldn't have!  Same goes for chocolate.  I bought some 85% chocolate which I read somewhere (maybe Joe's book) was the best option and if I REALLY needed a wee extra treat or a chocolate hit, I had a square of that rather than super sugary milk chocolate.

19 - Be ready

The most important tip is that you have to be ready to start.  Accept the fact it is a big commitment and make sure you are ready for it to take over your life for a while.  I have become a little obsessed with it but that means I'm sticking to it and seeing results!  I never would have managed this last summer when the twins were so little but now I felt so ready to change my lifestyle and make it work.  I also found it got easier after the first week or two on each cycle as you get into a new routine with both exercise and cooking.

So there you have it, my top tips for Cycle One.  I hope you find them helpful and I will be sure to come back and add more if I remember any.  Annoyingly I only have 19, I must think of a 20th!

I loved cycle one although did find I was looking forward to a change by the end as the recipes were getting a bit monotonous as I was batch cooking and sticking to those I knew I liked.  I definitely had more energy despite getting up earlier and I noticed an obvious difference in my overall fitness.

90 day SSS plan Cycle 2 - weight loss by Bex

After submitting cycle 1 on day 28, I stayed on cycle 1 until I received the next part of my plan.  Luckily it only took 2 days to arrive so I was able to start cycle 2 on day 31 as planned.  I was so nervous about lifting weights in this cycle but I have to say, having now done arms on Thursday and shoulders today, I am quite enjoying it!  My workouts do still incorporate HIIT exercises in two 10 minute slots but the overall session is mainly lifting weights.  Because it's not fast paced like the HIIT alone, I decided to watch TV during my workout rather than just listen to music.  I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get bored lifting and found it the perfect distraction to concentrate on when it got difficult!  I've moved the small TV from our bedroom (which hasn't been watched anyway since I stopped breastfeeding during the night, months ago) to the garage where I have set up my weights and new bargainous cross trainer (seriously - £10!!) so I can watch Netflix while I work out.

My new "gym" in my "craft room" garage!

The principle this cycle is based on volume resistance training so I have to do 10 sets 10 times of each exercise, including rest time between, the whole thing now takes 55 minutes instead of 20-30.  Obviously this means getting up even earlier to make sure I get it all done and I am definitely more sore afterwards since my muscles aren't used to this AT ALL.  The trade off is the food!  I noticed some people complaining about the food and switching back to eating C1 food but I LOVE IT!  I have so much freedom now as I have a list of ingredients and quantities and can pick and choose, mix and match to make anything I want.  I received a few recipe ideas with my plan and found some more on the unofficial Facebook page but I've enjoyed making up my own and basing some on things I used to cook before the plan.

On rest days I avoid carbs but can have more fats so I get to enjoy olives and cheese!  On training days I now get carbs with every meal and can enjoy lots more berries as well as bread, pasta and potatoes!  It's awesome and I still get big portions so I'm never hungry.  In fact I often forget to have my snacks and have to fit them in later!  Oops!

So far my favourite meals have been:
Chicken & Broccoli Bake [R] (my adapted take on the one sent to me by Joe)
Spag bol [T] - pretty much the same as I used to make but with wholemeal spaghetti and without the wine (apparently even though the alcohol evaporates off, there are too many sugars)  :(
Sausage sandwich/bagel [T] with fried mushrooms & onions
Chicken Stroganoff [R] (above)
Chicken Saag [T]

And I've made up some BBQ friendly recipes too!
Burger [T] (complete with bun and salad)
Sausages in honey & mustard with baked new potatoes and barbecued asparagus [T]

I plan to post a few of the recipes here, including the basic broccoli soup for when I just don't fancy a pile of greens with my meal, I have a cup of this instead.

I've tried a few more of the protein powders from My Protein now, I ordered some sample sachets as I wanted to try some different flavours before committing to any more big packs.  I FINALLY received my replacement chocolate brownie flavour after the hair debacle (apparently the replacement got lost in the post, hmmm) and I'm not even that keen on it.  It smelled nice but I obviously didn't taste it after finding the hair and I find this one has an obvious taste of sweeteners which I dislike.

I ordered sample pouches of the Raspberry, Vanilla, Latte, Salted caramel, Strawberry (stevia), Vanilla (stevia) and Apple crumble & custard.  The apple crumble one is far too sweet, I loved the salted caramel (surprisingly not too sweet) and raspberry and quite liked the vanilla as well.

I wrote the above last week just a few days into Cycle 2.  I'm now half way through week two and I'm still enjoying it, both the food and exercise but I have struggled to stay on plan this week.  On Sunday evening I hosted Baking Club with an awesome theme of boozy bakes.  I made my most favourite cake, Chocolate Guinness Cake and there were 5 other delicious cakes to try as well.  Although I've been very determined to avoid temptation most of the time, I have allowed myself the odd little treat like a slice of FIL's birthday cake and a glass of fizz.  Since then I've had no alcohol which to be honest, I haven't missed except when cooking spag bol and Nik had a lovely glass of red which I smelled from across the kitchen!  I have missed cake more and planned to enjoy small pieces of each at the club meeting.

As I was going to be having the carbs from sugar and flour and fat from butter in the cakes, I decided to remove them from my evening meal to help balance out the effects.  Obviously the carbs and fat from cake are not ideal, nor in the correct amounts for the plan but I just had some baked turkey breast and broccoli soup for dinner.  And the cakes were amazing by the way!

I actually ended up having a tiny sliver of the birthday cake I made for Leasa at our latest WI committee meeting and there was yet another cake temptation at MIL's house today which I had a sliver of also.  I've struggled to get up early a couple of days this week and have been feeling really tired as I've had a lot of work to do so haven't been going to bed early enough, as well as being hormonal!  The cold, wet weather doesn't help either!  However, I have done it and completed all of my workouts as planned and apart from the cake, I've stayed on plan and I'm still genuinely loving the food on both training and rest days.  I'm always satisfied by my meals and have managed to finish them all easily.

I have managed to resist all other temptations too, like what was left of the Guinness cake in my fridge for a week, and all of the nibbles and treats at both our last WI meeting and the committee meeting, right in front of me and all things I love.  I've surprised myself and I'm very proud at sticking with this but I really want good results from this plan so there's just no point in cheating.  It helps that I and others are starting to see a difference now too as that's really encouraging me to keep at it.  I've heard others talk about all the carbs in Cycle 2 making them bloated and feel lethargic so I don't know if it's that or just my crazy hormonal week (and added cake) making me feel tired so I'll see how I find it next week and try getting to bed earlier!

So, here I am, Cycle 2 Day 11, 41 days into my 90 day plan and still going strong.  And surprisingly still loving it.  Hopefully I'll have some time to write about my new fitness clothing and recipes next week too!

90 day sss plan - end of cycle one, weight loss by Bex

So I've come to the end of my first 4 weeks on the body coach's 90 day SSS plan.  I've had some pretty good results although not as dramatic as some of the 4 week results I've seen on Joe's social media pages.  Although I was realistic about the fact they are a select few of hundreds signing up, given that I've made some pretty dramatic changes to my lifestyle, I hoped to be one of those amazing transformations with a bit more of a change.  However, I am making great progress and the biggest change is definitely in how I feel.  I absolutely have more energy and more motivation every day and I haven't missed a single workout.

It's recommended that we do 4-5 HIIT workouts per week and I aimed for 5 in case I missed one for some reason.  I've managed all 5 every week despite a few challenging days with the twins/work.  Nik has been an amazing support enabling me to manage both the endless weighing and cooking food as well as my workouts when I didn't do them at 6am.  I've also stuck to the food pretty much 100% other than our night at the ball and FIL's birthday.  I have struggled with the water intake since the first week.  I usually manage around 2 litres (which is probably double what I previously drank) but rarely make the 3.25L.

So, anyway, the results so far...

I've only lost 6.2lbs (just under 3kg) but that's almost half a stone and definitely heading in the right direction!  I still have another couple of stone (about 12kg) to lose to reach my target healthy weight (12 stone).  And I've lost 8 inches overall.  The majority from my hips (2.5") but apparently my right thigh hasn't changed at all!

I have to admit, I wrote all of the above on Sunday morning but had to wait until the evening for Nik to take some photos for me.  (He had to go in to work to take a patient to theatre, and then another so didn't get home until 7am - no 7 day NHS my foot!  He was also supposed to be in today to deal with another 3 emergency operations but luckily, for both him and the patients, he'd swapped last Sunday so was able to go to bed after being up for 26 hours!)  Anyway, despite my initial minor disappointment, I am now thrilled at the changes I can see.  Not bad for 4 weeks but I definitely still have a long way to go to get remotely near the size I used to be.  I miss my old clothes!!

I'm not quite ready to share the full before & after photos on here yet but for now, here's the back view.  Surprisingly I found these the most inspirational anyway although I was relieved to see my belly finally reducing in the side view!  Taken just 4 weeks apart...

You can see I've lost the folds of fat at the sides, my waist is returning and my saddlebags are shrinking!  I lost most of the inches from my hips and although my old bikini is still clearly far too small, it's starting to look a little better!  Not only that but I am happier, fitter and less tired AND my skin is better too.

I think it also helps to remind myself of just how far I've come since the twin pregnancy!  I did get a pretty massive bump despite being slimmer elsewhere and I did put on a lot more weight afterwards but I'm finally heading in the right direction.

34 weeks (3 weeks to go!)

37 weeks!

The first days after the birth with my horrendous PEP rash!

It's funny how many people tell me I look fine whenever I mention needing to lose weight or that I've started a plan (I refuse to call it a diet).  Either they're just being polite (which seems pointless, just be supportive rather than lie) or I am good at hiding it with what I chose to wear.  I know being tall helps and I do try to wear flattering things but people often look surprised when I admit I'm a size 18 at the moment.  (I was in size 20 trousers last year.)  It's good that I don't look overweight as I'm going about life but as you can see when I'm stripped down, my body isn't healthy and I need to lose the fat and tone up.  Plus, like I said, I want to get back into my old wardrobe!  I have some pretty fab clothes :)

I've just submitted my results and photos following Cycle 1 with my testimonial I've copied in below:

As a busy mother of 18 month old twins who works part time, I was extremely nervous to sign up for the plan as I knew it would take a lot of dedication and time but I am SO glad I did.  It has done exactly what I hoped so far and everyone has noticed the change in my energy levels, weight loss and overall fitness already.

I first discovered Joe's Instagram when my twins were 8 months old and I had put on a lot of weight since giving birth.  I was eating a lot with little exercise and too much quick, rubbish food.  I was still breastfeeding and not at all ready to sign up to the plan but once the twins were walking and I finished breastfeeding, I bought Joe's book and tried out a few of the principles to see if I thought I might manage to stick to it, I knew I had to feel ready to commit to the plan fully.  I have never dieted, I LOVE food and wouldn't manage to stick to a low calorie diet so I loved the idea of big meals (I have a big appetite!) and a structured plan.  I was also drawn to the short HIIT sessions as I hoped I'd be able to fit them in at home.  Luckily my twins sleep well so I have managed to get up early to fit in my HIIT, shakes and breakfast before they wake.  Despite the early starts, I've felt less tired and a lot more organised.  I'm proud to say I've completed all 5 workouts every week and stuck to the food almost 100% (we had a night out and a birthday celebration so I've had a couple of off plan meals, one glass of fizz, one slice of cake and a cream tea today too!)  I found I really got into the swing of the food prep and choosing recipes after a couple of weeks and I genuinely love a lot of the meals.

As for my results, I admit I was a little disappointed at first by the numbers (just 6 lbs lost and 8" overall) compared to some other transformations but after seeing the difference in my photos (which I purposefully tried to keep real and not suck my belly in for!) I am delighted with the results so far!  I'm so glad we're asked to take photos as that has really spurred me on to the next cycle despite being worried about using weights, something I've never done before!  Don't let the numbers ruin your motivation, it really helps to see the difference in the pictures!   And actually, for just 4 weeks, I'm very chuffed with the changes so far!  I am already a new person, thank you Joe!

I'm extremely nervous about Cycle 2 with the longer training and added weights, different recipes (in fact I think there might not be recipes, just lists of foods to pick from and combine) and a whole new routine to get used to again.  Fingers crossed I manage to keep it up!
