Twins rainbow afternoon tea birthday party

I organised a rainbow afternoon tea party for the twins' 4th birthday and loved it so much! 

I was especially proud of my rainbow jelly!  I managed to find all the colours except blue in Tesco and ordered Jello from amazon to complete the stripes.  I filled some wine glasses and my Tiki Head glass with the extra layers which added more decoration and colour to the table setting.

The kids loved it and were pretty good at selecting a mix of healthy options with their sweet treats.  I bought a cute rainbow teapot (£8) to serve colourful fruit tea and made a rainbow plate of fruit with mini marshmallows as clouds (yes I did pick out all the pink ones).  We made finger sandwiches for the the cake stand with warm scones (bought and heated) with clotted cream and jam and white french fancies on the top as I had no more time nor inclination to bake more cakes - I decorated these with little rainbow toppers.  I also bought little rainbow crackers from Paperchase which had stickers inside for a little extra something on the table.

It was so great having a small number attending, 6 pre-schoolers was perfect and not too chaotic!  It meant the mums could all enjoy a glass of fizz and the cheese board and scones too.  Since we only had four party favours to think about I decided to buy something a bit more fancy than a usual party bag filled with plastic tat.  I splashed out on personalised mugs from A Piece Of (£9.99) for each child which also served as their place name for the afternoon tea.  When everyone left, we washed their mug and snuck (not a word but should be!) a packet of Rainbow Drops inside before putting them in their boxes to take home.  I love them so much I got my own Bex mug too!

As for the main birthday cakes, as always I baked two, a carrot cake which they always request and this year a chocolate Guinness cake!  Both iced with cream cheese icing, our favourite!  I made little bunting toppers out of rainbow washi tape from Paperchase saying Happy Birthday and Priya & Kalyan stuck on with white alphabet stickers and tied to a couple of rainbow straws from Tiger.  I then had some sparkly 4 candles and 4 little candles for them to blow out as well.

We got the kids to sit on the sofa ready to sing Happy Birthday and brought the cakes through to the living room so my pretty backdrop could be in the photos ;)  I loved the effect of the simple rainbow coloured streamers from Amazon taped to the doorway to the office.

They had such a great party, I had so much fun setting it all up making rainbow treats and they loved eating it all!  I'll be reviewing the party entertainment later too which was awesome!
